The Asheville Tourists of the Southern League ended the 1968 season with a record of 86 wins and 54 losses, finishing first in the SL.

The Tourists led the league with 614 runs, powered by 120 home runs. Asheville surrendered 533 runs. Darrel Chaney paced the squad with 23 home runs, while Goldie Francis, Bernie Carbo and Archie Moore each walloped 15 or more also. Archie Moore drove in 79 runs. David Burge topped all regular hitters by connecting at a .317 clip. Grover Powell paced the team with 16 wins and a team-best 2.54 ERA, tops among pitchers with enough qualifying appearances.
