State Street Park was built with WPA funds, and opened for the PONY League in 1939.The opening day crowd exceeded 3,000, and is still the largest in Batavia history. In 1939 Mayor James J. Mahaney obtained additional WPA funds to enclose the ballpark with a wooden fence and to construct an 800 seat roofed grandstand. The new park opened May 10, 1939. Later the name was changed to Dwyer Stadium after Ed Dwyer, president of the team. The park was completely torn down and rebuilt in 1996. The catcher faced north in the old park and NW in the new field.
